Some photos fight you all the way, and this little green star was one of them. The lighting in the room was so bright and so badly placed that the windows produced a sort of celestial glare — ironic, given the balloon — and I ended up cranking the dehaze slider up to about 11 just to get anything resembling detail back. It worked, sort of, though it also brought out every smudge, fleck, and bit of character the window frame has collected over the years.
The balloon itself looks like it floated here after the party was over, ran out of energy, and thought, “This’ll do.” Not exactly glamorous. But there’s something I like about catching it in this slightly defeated state. It’s honest. It’s the after-photo, the one you only see once everyone’s gone home.
Some days, Project 365 hands you a minor triumph. Other days, it hands you a creased green star clinging to a window and challenges you to pretend you meant it. And somehow that feels part of the fun.
